Sequins, gemstones, & bedazzled extras made many an appearance in Fall 2012 trend report, from accessories to eyebrows. And while we might be waiting for it to get a little cooler before we start donning rich jewel tones, metallic make up is ideal for an early transition – especially when it comes to nails.
Herewith, tips on how to do the glitzy gradient colors (blues, purples, coppers & gold) manicure:
This gradient technique is beyond easy to master. All you need is a bit of plastic wrap and a selection of complementary nail polishes.
Once your base coat has dried, choose the colours that will appear on your first nail. (On my pinky, for instance, I used three shades of blue: a light, medium and dark.) Pour a little puddle—about one brush-worth of polish—of each colour on a piece of paper. Crumple up a square of plastic wrap and dab it into each colour, then onto your nail. The polish will appear splattered, but keep dabbing with other colours to achieve a blended gradient. You’ll likely get some polish on your skin, but this is easy to clean up after.
Repeat step 2 on each nail, changing the colours used as you go.
Once you’re done painting, dip a brush in acetone to clean up the edges and the skin around your cuticle.
Add a top coat and voilà! A glitzy gradient that’s ready for fall.
