It’s the 144th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. A lawyer and a politician by profession, he is a well-known personality of the sub-continent who does not need any introduction. Jinnah was an Indian politician who successfully campaigned for an independent Pakistan and became its first leader. He is known as ‘Quaid-e-Azam’ or ‘Great Leader’ or ‘Founder of the nation’. Born on December 25, 1876 in Karachi, he started his political career by joining Indian National Congress in 1906. Later he joined Muslin League in 1913.

In 1920, the Indian National Congress launched a movement of non-cooperation to boycott all aspects of British rule. Jinnah was the one who opposed this policy and left congress. By the time, now there were visible differences between the congress and the Muslim League. After provincial elections in 1937, the congress refused to form coalition administrations with the Muslim League in some areas. This was the time when relations between Hindus and Muslims began to deteriorate. In 1940, at a Muslim League session in Lahore, the first official demand was made for the partition of India and the creation of a Muslim state of Pakistan. Jinnah had always believed that Hindu-Muslim unity was possible, but reluctantly came to the view that partition was necessary to safeguard the rights of Indian Muslims.

His insistence on this issue through negotiations with the British government resulted in the partition of India and the formation of the independent Muslim state of Pakistan on 14 August 1947. This occurred against a backdrop of widespread violence between Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs, and migration between the new states of Pakistan and India in which hundreds of thousands sacrificed their lives.

Selfless, hardworking, devoted, charismatic, knowledgeable, honest, and professional; these are some of the personality traits of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah that earned him recognition throughout the world. His personal qualities and his commitment to the cause of Pakistan had won him the status he has got today. Jinnah was a man of principles, who set very high standards and values in politics. Gutter politics was not his style. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s two traits gave him distinction; Firstly, his rational approach towards politics, and secondly his keen knowledge of objective ground realities, however awkward or complex, he made the right choice at the right moment. He was no doubt one of the most charismatic leaders in recent history.

He was a well-dressed and sophisticated man of his time. Without any doubt, he was one of the stylish politicians of his time and still the most stylish politician in the subcontinent. He dressed himself perfectly, his elegant and magnificent personality gave him respect wherever he went.

He was the champion of women rights and an advocate of youth participation in the nation building. By following his principles, we as Pakistanis can excel as a united country.
