Beauty Tips: Lipstick as Blush

Using lipstick as blush is  a lifesaver.. . Although not specifically formulated to be used as blush, lipstick is a reasonable alternative if you’ve run out of blush or just want to try something new. Lipstick essentially works in the same way as a cream blush — as long as you use a light touch, you should be able to create a natural look. A classic satin or matte finish lipstick is the perfect substitute for blush.

Here’s the tricks to apply it:

Option 1 –

Don’t swipe the color on directly. Instead, apply to the back of your hand to warm the lipstick, then tap with your finger onto the apple of your cheeks and blend.

Option 2 –

  1. Sweep your finger across the lipstick to pick up a generous amount of product.
  2. Rub it between two fingers to really warm it up.
  3. Smile in the mirror to find the apples of your cheeks then tap your fingers along the upper half of the apples as your work your way across the cheekbone.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the other side.
  5. Take a step back and decide if that’s enough of a flush or if you want to go back and apply another layer for more intensity.

Option 3-

  • Choose a red, pink or peach lipstick. You can also use a bronze lipstick to give your face a sun-kissed glow. Wash your hands to get rid of bacteria, as you will be using your fingertips to apply the lipstick as blush.

  • Swipe some color from the lipstick onto your index finger. About three swipes should be enough color for each cheek. Don’t exceed five swipes of lipstick or you’ll end up with a mess on your hands.

  • Dab three spots of the lipstick onto the apples of your cheeks in a triangular pattern. Add more or less lipstick depending on how much color your want on your cheeks. Keep in mind that lipstick is highly pigmented, and the color will be very noticeable.

  • Using a clean finger, blend the lipstick in outward strokes, across your cheekbones toward your hairline. Blend until all telltale lines have softened and disappeared.

I’ve tried different lipstick brands from drugstore to luxury brands and the best lipstick and blush is the flower/fruit of the lipstick tree or atchuete. It has carotene too and it does not cost anything…unless of course you have a lipstick tree!
