Following Jada Pinkett Smith’s call for a boycott of the Academy Awards over diversity concerns, her husband announced he’s following her lead.

Will Smith told Robin Roberts that he’s skipping next month’s Oscars ceremony in an interview on Good Morning America, claiming the awards are “not reflecting that beauty” of Hollywood as a whole.

“It would be awkward for me to show up with Charlize,” Smith joked. “[Jada and I] have discussed it, and we’re part of this community but at this current time, we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say that this is okay.”

The actor starred in last year’s Concussion, for which some critics predicted he’d nab an Oscar nomination. No actors or actresses of color were nominated in acting categories this year.

Responding to Jada’s call for an Oscars boycott in a video on her Facebook this week, Smith praised his wife for taking a stand on the issue. “She’s deeply passionate and when she is moved, she has to go,” he said. “And I heard her words and I was knocked over, I was happy to be married to that woman but I appreciated the push.” .. see more
