Eid al-Fitr is the festival celebrated by Muslims around the world at the end of Ramadan. The festival is also known as the Feast of Breaking the Fast, or the Sugar Feast. In the UAE it is marked by public holidays and is a time for celebration with the family, with many people spending the first day of Eid with their nearest and dearest. Many families will have pre-arranged their Eid celebrations but if you are thinking of travelling during Eid and haven’t picked a destination yet, then we’ve got some great ideas for Eid vacations. Here’s our list of the most popular Eid getaways, and they’re all within four hours travel of the UAE.

Celebrate Eid al-Fitr with the ultimate luxury vacation, a trip to the Maldives. Only four hours from Dubai and you can be relaxing in one of the most heavenly places on earth. Each resort is surrounded by ridiculously blue sea, and the whitest sand you can imagine. It’s a great place to go if you’re looking for paradise with very little effort. The Taj Exotica Resort on South Male Atoll is one of the beset options for privacy and romance, each of their Deluxe Lagoon Villas have private plunge pools and you are transported to the island in a luxury speedboat. It’s clear to see why this resort was voted 2nd best resort in the world in the Conde Nast Readers’ Choice Awards.

If you want a change of scenery from the UAE but can’t face a long flight then Muscat is a great choice, with flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi taking only one hour, blink and you’ll miss it! There are many hotels to choose from but a particular favorite for those that are travelling without children is Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort, Al Husn. This beautiful resort is set on the beach with the mountains as a backdrop and is completely secluded from the rest of Muscat. The resort has three hotels, but Al Husn is the most exclusive and does not allow children at the pools or beach. Perfect if you’re seeking the ultimate in peace and quiet over Eid.

Sri Lanka is another destination that is only four hours away from Dubai / Abu Dhabi, choose an overnight flight and you can arrive at your resort early and start exploring. Our particular favorite place in Sri Lanka is Galle, a beautiful fortified town on the south coast. It’s a great place to explore, with historical buildings, quaint little shops and busy markets and the people are the friendliest you will find. Travel only 20 minutes in a nippy little auto-rickshaw and you will arrive at the Fortress Resort and Spa, considered to be one of Sri Lanka’s most luxurious resorts. There are so many things to love about the Fortress, but if we were forced to pick only two they would be the sound of waves crashing outside our room and being served the most unbelievably delectable Sri Lankan curries around. We’re hungry just thinking about it!

If you really want to stay close to home this Eid, why not splash out and enjoy a luxury night or two in one of Dubai’s hotels. Eid is a great time to hit the shops in the Emirates, with many stores offering round-the-clock or extended opening hours. Malls also lay on extra activities and have fantastic deals for you to take advantage of. If we were to choose the best hotel to make the most of an Eid shopping break it would have to be The Address Dubai Mall. This 5-star luxury hotel is only a stroll away from the biggest mall in the Middle East (and one of the biggest in the world) and allows you to enjoy spectacular views of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Make sure you don’t miss the fountain show in front of the Burj Khalifa, you’ll have a great view from the hotel.
