According to reports, a rare celestial illusion of “triple suns” occurred in the sky over Chifeng in northern China’s Inner Mongolia.

The three suns rising in the skies was displayed in an incredible video which was recorded by stunned onlookers and the video circulated in news reports and social media networks.

The sun, accompanied by two smaller twins, suddenly popped up in the sky at about 9am on Friday morning, CBS News reported. The tripple suns “ice halo” were surrounded by arched rainbow-like halos.

The illusion is a naturally occurring atmospheric phenomenon, also known as a “phantom sun”, and can only form in specific conditions when the sun is viewed at a certain angle from earth.

The phantom sun or ice halo only appears when ice crystals create high clouds in the air around 6,000 meters above ground, and produce reflected sunlight,
