The UAE Federal department employees are waiting to hear from the Council of Ministers (Cabinet), who will decide on the New Year Holiday.

A source at the Authority of the Federal Human Resources expects the New Year holiday to be shifted to Thursday [January 2] because January 1 falls between two business days.

The source explained that according to Article 5 of Clause 100 of the Council of Ministers Resolution No 13 of 2012, public holidays for ministries and federal institutions and the government can be moved either to the beginning or end of the week, if it falls between two business days.

However, the source added that the holiday for private sector employees is likely to be on Wednesday [January 1] and that it would be a paid holiday for private sector workers.

It may be recalled that the Council of Ministers had revised the National Day and Eid Al Adha holidays to coincide with the weekend.
