A group of suicide bombers attacked Kabul International Airport early Monday. The bombers have taken shelter inside an under construction building in the area and are firing at the security forces.
The attack took place at around 4.30 am. Large explosions and gunfire were heard coming from the military side of Kabul International Airport, which alerted the security forces and they immediately jumped into action.
TOLOnews reporter at the scene of action confirmed the attack and said that the gunfire is ‘ongoing’.
The suicide bombers are still firing at the security forces. All roads leading to the airport have been cordoned off and security beefed up.
The area where attack has taken place also houses an Isaf command centre. The target of the suicide bombers could be the command centre, though it’s not confirmed until now.
All diplomatic areas have been locked down and all flights in and out of the airport are cancelled.
No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the ongoing attack until now and the number of casualties is also not known.
The attack happens after President Karzai left for Qatar on Sunday to attend the US-Islamic World Forum.
