Hundreds of Afghan demonstrators marched to the parliament complex in the capital Kabul on Saturday, demanding that US special forces withdraw from Wardak province after allegations of abuse.
President Hamid Karzai ordered the withdrawal after he alleged that US soldiers and Afghan militia working with them had tortured and murdered civilians.
The few hundred protesters, many from Wardak, were outnumbered by armed riot police.
”They were demanding the withdrawal of American special forces from Wardak and also the release of some people detained by the Americans in the province,” Kabul’s deputy police chief said.
Mr Karzai’s stance on Wardak, a key province next to Kabul, was one of a recent series of anti-US moves, as Afghan relations with Washington worsen.
