Racist shirt at Romney rally outrages many

Lancaster – There were a lot of supporters that came out to hear Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan during their campaign stop in Lancaster, Ohio, and at least one of them proudly showed his racist side.
The Toledo Blade reports that there were approximately 8,500 people in the town square ready to greet the Republican Presidential nominee. There were also several photographers covering the event and taking pictures of the Romney/Ryan supporters in the crowd.
One photographer with Getty Images took a photo of a Romney supporter wearing a t-shirt which said “Put the white back in the White House.” Just above the saying a Romney/Ryan campaign logo can be clearly seen. According to the Examiner, the patch appears to have been added to the shirt, perhaps by the owner.
As the image began circulating through various social networks, reactions were strong. Twitter was buzzing with comments such as:
Absolutely disgusting, shows the type of people Romney draws.
Was an undecided voter. Voting for Obama now. If gop this full of hate I want no part of it
Appalling. “@octavianasr: Sick!-> A man at Romney rally wears shirt “Put the White back in the White House” pic.twitter.com/HGkw5i7i”

Some people just want to put a white man back in the white house. They don’t care how idiotic he is.
Comments to the Examiner report were equally passionate. One person stated:

“This is why we can not allow the republicans to rule this nation! This man has no understanding of what America is all about. If you are voting on the basis of the Presidents skin color then you are mocking every soldier who has died protecting this country–no ifs ands or buts about it!”

Facebook comments include:
It occurs to me that this reprehensible man is much more honest about why he votes Republican, than many people are. Unlike those who only pretend to care about the deficit after a Black man inherited one, who didn’t blame the administration for “security breaches” (9-11) while a white man was at the helm. The same crowd who thinks the Black First Lady is fascist for wanting their children to eat healthier lunches at school. Make no mistake, I’m not saying that everyone who votes Republican is racist, or that Democrats AREN’T racist, but only one party campaigns on the platform of “those people want to take what you have.”
I hope that guy is rich because if he isn’t he is going to get screwed by Romney.
That’s what this election has become….black & white….so so sad!
Where does it say people have to be politically correct, non-offensive and quiet. We need more people to shake the system up and say what they want. I for one cant stand that a black man got into the White House before a white woman. Does this make me racist? If so, too bad so sad.
After showing the photo to several people, the comments received revealed frustration and anger with the GOP.

“One person stated: “I have been a Republican all of my life and for right now, I still plan to vote for Romney. But it is this type of thing that makes me embarrassed at times to admit it. I am not a big Clinton fan, but I agree with what he insinuated at the Democratic Convention, many people hate Obama not because of what he has or had not done as President, but because of the color of his skin. That sickens me. ”

James said:

“This is why I have gone from being an independent to a Democrat recently. I am not delusional, I know there are racists who are democrats, it was democrats that started the KKK. But, we have come a long way since then and the things I have heard the last 4 or 5 years has shown me that racism is alive and well in the Republican party. This is just the icing on the cake.”

D. told me:

“I have voted for Democrats and Republicans over the years. The last few years though I have seen a Republican party that appears to be full of so much hate it is scary. It makes me so angry that this type of mentality is still so prevalent. It is equally frustrating that the Republicans seem to embrace it.”
