The Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has called upon the world community to declare blasphemy despicable and a criminal act.
Addressing Ishq-e-Mustafa Conference held at the Prime Minister House, he said denial of holocaust is met with punishment but Muslims’ sentiments are absolutely disregarded, adding it is incumbent upon all as a Muslim to protest against any insult to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
“The anti-Islam movie has harmed the sentiments of all Muslims including me,” he asserted, adding the issue does not pertain to the freedom of expression as it was intended to provoke the feelings of Muslims.
He said if denying Holocaust is a crime then demonizing holiest personalities is not less a crime. Prime Minister Pervez Ashraf said an attack on the Prophet Hazrat Mohammad [Peace Be upon Him] is an attack on the core belief of 1.5 billion Muslims.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the religious sentiments and feelings of Muslims have been badly hurt by the sacrilegious movie produced in the United States, and the Punjab government deeply resents it.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the chief minister said the profane movie was highly provocative, extremely deplorable and heart-rending, and deserved maximum condemnation. “No religion, society or philosophy allows such freedom of expression that is against the larger interest of humanity, and completely violates the norms of equity and justice,” he stressed.
Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hassan has stressed upon the Muslim rulers to stop the advocacy of the US and the west, and instead present themselves as representatives of Islam and the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Addressing the Friday congregation at Mansoora mosque here, he said that if President Zardari and the federal cabinet had come on roads in protest against the blasphemous film, the people would not have gone out of control. Syed Munawar Hasan said that the west had already been defeated by Islam in the fields of academics and culture and was left with no argument. Therefore, it was trying to thrust its satanic civilization on the world by force and all those who challenged it were being attacked on frivolous charges. He said, the indifference of the Muslim rulers in the present situation was most shameful. Slating the west ‘s inaction against the blasphemers on the plea of freedom of expression, the JI Ameer said the west had double standards. He said that if any one dared to question the validity of holocaust, he was handed down death sentence of life term but the blasphemy of the Prophet of Islam was permitted on the ground of freedom of expression.
Tehreek e Insaf, Chairman Imran Khan here on Friday while speaking to a peaceful rally said that West must learn to respect all religions of the world. Expressing his deep resentment at the defamatory film about the Holy Prophet (PBUH), he said that it is unfortunate but governments and people in the West neither respect their own religion nor care about the religious beliefs of others. Imran Khan said that the only way to counter this is for the Muslim Ummah to act in a concerted fashion and make sure that laws are passed in Western countries that prescribe punishment for those ridiculing religions or religious beliefs of Muslims. He said that the Jews have been able to do that and now in many countries Holocaust denial is a crime. If that can be a crime than why not ridiculing or maligning Islam he said.
