MoU signed to build local officials’ capacity

KABUL: The independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Central Asia (UCA) in a bid to enhance capacity of district chiefs and support good governance in provincial offices.
“Building the capacity of local officials is of great importance to institutionalize good governance at national and sub-national levels across the country,” said Abdul Khaliq Farahi, the IDLG general director.
He said that according the MoU the IDLG in collaboration with the UCA would organize an international level curriculum for trainees and later on would provide one-year training for district chiefs.
The training program for district chiefs would be arranged by the UCA with the European Credit Transfer, he added.
“The project will be implemented within coming two years that will train more than 370 district chiefs in different fields,” he said.
The UCA chancellor, Bohdan Krachenko, said they were working together to develop a curriculum in order to enable the IDLG to better train local officials.
He said establishing of the training programs was a crucial step towards improvement of local governance in Afghanistan.
It is pertinent to mention here that the IDLG in collaboration with national and international organizations provides short term training programs for government officials and has trained at more than 300 local officials in different fields including good governance.
