MoD welcomes Pakistan army’s operations in North Waziristan

KABUL: Pakistani army’s military operations in North Waziristan will prove helpful in improving security on both sides of the Durand Line, said officials in the Ministry of Defense (MoD).
General Afzal Aman, an official in the ministry said that Pakistani army’s operations in North Waziristan will improve security situation on both sides of Durand line. “Coordination between the two countries in war against terrorism will yield in positive results,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that operations of Pakistani army against armed insurgents got momentum after recent trip of Pakistani army chief, Raheel Sharif, to Kabul.
Pakistani army killed as many as 71 militants over the past three days in the operation.
Raheel Sharif in a trilateral summit between Afghanistan, Pakistan and NATO pledged cooperation in war against terrorism.
Jawed Kohistani, a political analyst, said that the operation should be also extended to other parts of the country.
“The operations will be helpful in eliminating the save havens and sanctuaries of terrorists in Pakistani soil,” he added. Kohistani stressed that the operations should not be only focused on North Waziristan, but should be extended to other parts of Pakistan.
Some political analysts voiced their concerns that the operations will compel terrorists to flee to Afghanistan.
