Japanese sports drink will soon become the first ad on the moon

Most people outside of Asia have never heard of Pocari Sweat, but the maker of this Japanese sports drink hopes that change after it becomes the first billboard on the moon. Otsuka Pharmaceutical has secured a spot on the first commercial robotic moon mission later this year for a 1 kilogram titanium can filled with powdered Pocari Sweat — the first sports drink on the moon. Also on-board for the journey, the hopes and dreams of children. Yes, really.
The canister will be designed to look like a regular aluminum can, but it will be much more substantial to ensure it survives the trip. The powdered Pocari Sweat will be sealed inside the so-called “Dream Capsule” with a special titanium key for easy opening, even decades down the line. Below the ring is a plate where the company plans to laser etch the handwritten dreams of young aspiring astronauts, in hopes one of them will be able to visit the moon in the future and rehydrate this marketing material to have a good long drink.
