HYSTERIA IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN A PANDEMIC

What if, you wake up in the morning and find yourself amid a dessert with no apparent sign of life anywhere; would you freak out? Yes of course, and it is quite natural. But prolonged freak and no action to save yourself would lead you to chaos. There is a similar condition going on right now in every corner of the world.

The pandemic named as COVID- 19 has struck hard not only on physical health of homo sapiens but also on mental and emotional health of this super creature. Humans are quarantined to save themselves from this virus. But in the interval of quarantine, how are you behaving that’s actually a question? Are you mentally under the attack of virus or your emotional burst out is the depiction of weak immunity of your emotions?

What is Hysteria? and how People React

Hysteria is a psychological term, etymologically Latin. As per oxford, it is a condition in which someone experiences vicious or extreme emotions that are uncontrollable, especially as a result of shock. It has been seen that by listening about a lock down, people have jumped out from their beds, turned their vehicles to grocery store and stocked their house with the necessities.

That was an immediate action under fight or flight. As if mentally we have imagined that situation is going to be worse and the world is at the verge of extinction. Because of such hysterical actions of “masses” the virus was successful not only in its transmission due to rush in grocery stores as well as it has been succeeded in the spread of terror on the name of upcoming food shortage and economic decline.

The general fact is, a pandemic is not an uncomplicated ailment to be controlled by bunch of pills in a period of a few months, especially in the case when the virus is novel, it may take up a year or more to completely eradicate this evil. For example, the viral attack of influenza virus in 1918 was ended by 1919, yet not completely eradicated but antiviral drug was developed.

If there is a situation of chaos, it really matters how you react. It has been observed that in case of COVID-19 pandemic. People are facing more fights and violence at home. As people are lacking patience and tolerance, their emotional uncontrollability is leading too another chaos. As per frequent news and articles being published, it is a high time to work on ourselves, and stop ourselves to become victim of a situational hysteria.

As per the context of movie, ‘Containment’ released in 2015. If you are watching it sanely, you could definitely see that if people had not been panicked, the situation could be controlled. Similarly, this is the time to act responsibly and sanely. Your caution against virus should not turn you in a hysteric. Despite of having home locked feeling, your emotional intelligence is needed. Everyone is going through a same pain; your reaction and courtesy can act as a healer. There are certain ways to do it;

ways to react responsibly in the time of a pandemic

  1. Sit back, relax and maintain social distance.
  2. Give space to get space.
  3. Talk politely to your housemates.
  4. Tolerate the difference in opinions.
  5. Be patient over someone else’ mistake.
  6. Learn to forgive and move on.
  7. Do not over eat as you have nothing to do.
  8. Save yourself from over thinking.
  9. Pray for the revival and end of this pandemic.
  10. Prepare for a better start.
