If you’re looking to rank your site on the first page of Google, it can be a pain. But having great SEO and landing on the top spot can absolutely change your business, and especially your profit numbers. I know from first hand experience. And in this post, I’ll share with you how my business landed on the first page of Google:

Market Research

Always start with the end in mind. When I set out to rank my page on the first page of Google, I knew that I needed to understand what market I was targeting first. After all, how can I create compelling advertising, repeat visitors, and great content if I don’t know my market?

However, there is something else important about doing market research before anything else: making sure you have the right numbers to make the math work. If your industry is too large, then you are competing with the major players of the world and they can outspend you all day. You’ll run out of time or money before you even have a chance.

On the flip side, if you go for a market that is too small, then you won’t have enough potential profit to pay for all of your work. So the first place I started when figuring this part out was to use Google’s free Keyword Planner. This thing is awesome. It lets you see monthly search numbers for different key terms so you can gauge how well a certain market will fit your strategy. Once you’ve decided on the market and the right key terms, it’s time for the next step:

Content Generation

Google SEO is all about content. You need quality content that actually engages the users that visit your site. That is why the market research above is so important. Once you understand your market and what makes them tick, you can write content (or get others to) in a way that speaks directly to the heart of your prospects.

This helps you convert them to email subscribers or customers, but it also does something key: gets them to click through onto your site in the first place (with a compelling headline). Google takes into account your click through rate. So it takes the total amount of times that someone sees your headline in Google and compares it to the amount of time people end up visiting your site.

These metrics help Google understand how relevant your content is to your market. Another key element with your content is to make it engaging so that people stay on your site longer. Google counts the amount of seconds that people are on your site for. The longer they stay, the better your rankings because they assume that the searcher must have found what they were looking for.

On-Page SEO Tricks

Now, the on-page SEO strategies for Google are always changing. But the principles I used can be applied for any site. To get on the first page, you need to make sure you are structuring your page the right way. Your main keyword needs to be in your title tag and sprinkled throughout an h2 tag and the body content somewhere. This will tell Google essentially what your site is about. The second part of this is making sure to use alt tags for your pictures because it adds that extra bit of juice. And you should know that Google wants all sites to be https instead of http for security reasons. This is inexpensive to do, so don’t put it off.

When it comes to online marketing, not all forms are equal. Some forms are paid, others are through affiliates, and then some (like SEO) are free but they take extra work. If you’re willing to hire someone or put in the work, then follow my advice above and hopefully you’ll land on the first page of Google and reap the benefits.
