COVID-19 has affected our lives in so many ways and it continues to do so as some countries are suffering from second wave of COVID-19 infections. It won’t be exaggeration to say that COVID-19 has emerged as a disaster for the world taking many lives and depriving people of their jobs. It has changed lives forever, economically, mentally and physically.
Human personalities are shaped by their day life experiences and social interactions. Many people around the globe were and are under the lockdown. Some are locked in their homes, some away from homes, some are locked with an estranged spouse, some are in solitude and some are suffering because of unemployment. There are also people, who took it as a positive experience to slow down their lives and they took out time to reflect on themselves. There are people fortunate enough to spend good time with their families and friends. Some gave time to their hobbies like cycling, drawing, painting, writing, singing, baking etc. Well…this uncertain time has left impact on our personalities weather short term or long term.
Type of behavioral changes because of lockdown
The current evidence show that COVID-19 is a respiratory droplet that spreads through breathing or contacts with the contaminated hands. Keeping hands clean and sanitized has become a common practice to avoid COVID-19 transmission. Objects like bags, mobile phones, grocery items are also being disinfected by the people.
Mental wellbeing is affected by the physical wellbeing of individuals such as loss or changes in sleep patterns and eating habits, which in turn worsens other pre-existing health conditions. Mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression have become more pronounced and are being experienced by more individuals around the world. Anxiety has also become prevalent, particularly around issues related to the financial implications of COVID-19.
The enforced shift during the worst of the pandemic to virtual working, consuming and socializing has fueled a massive shift to virtual activity for anything. It has affected ways of communicating across learning, working, transacting and consuming.
Now people want a healthy lifestyle to have strong immunity to fight with COVID-19. The concerns about health are amplifying. A health economy will emerge with opportunities for all to plug into. Every business will need to understand how it can be part of a new health ecosystem that will dominate citizen thinking.
When locked was imposed and people were asked to stay at home, our willingness to help others by sacrificing some of the pleasures in our own life is an example of a positive behavior that makes us believe in the human race. For example, we see donations to the underprivileged people or the ones who are economically effected by the pandemic.
Life comes with ups and downs. It is up to us how we deal with them. In these uncertain times, we should cherish and build on the positive attitudes and behaviors and learn from the days when time was not good. Looking ahead, we need to keep in mind, wars and pandemics do emerge that are challenging time but always be kind at the end of the day, we depend on each other and the outside world to have a comfortable life.
