Hidden but Evident

The present socio-economic and political situations contribute to the deviation of man from certain natural instincts.  The idea of deviation from instinct was proposed by Freud in his theory “Beyond the principle of pleasure”. In this theory, he argued that the feelings of pleasure or un-pleasure are regulated by the excitement level of the mind. Usually human minds strive to keep the excitement level low in order to avoid un-pleasure. Social circumstances are vital to the stability of state of mind.

 

Coming to the scenario of Pakistan, it can be observed that most of the people here are living under the poverty line- an alarming economic condition. Under such circumstances, excitement level rises and satisfaction is diverted from positive to negative attitudes leading to violence and hatred. In a territory, where people are getting nothing more than polluted water, bomb-blasts and drone attacks, the mental capabilities will automatically be reduced from doing something better to getting worst out of thoughts. Under the ego’s instinct of self-preservation, “Pleasure Principle” is changed to “Reality Principle”.

 

People tend to adopt realistic attitudes instead of living in the fantasy world of pleasure created by their minds. This is especially true for our society where people change their ways of thinking and interpreting with the change in political and economic situations. In the society where we live, these situations fluctuate rapidly due to unstable democracy and lack of sincerity of leaders for the nation.

 

This may cause conflicts and dissentions in the mental condition of the people. Realistic behavior may arise due to the strength of impressions or some dominating wishes, which may ultimately lead to inward satisfaction and pleasure. When people do not get what they need and deserve, their sewage side is prone to exposure which may cause, and in many cases does, the disruption in social political and economic systems. This is what actually going on in Pakistan.

The need of hour is to spend some energy to satisfy what is originally wild and animal in man’s human.
