MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan’s First Division on Thursday allowed the family of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to join her at her hospital detention suite for Christmas and the New Year, a radio report said.

The anti-graft court’s order was issued after Arroyo’s lawyers filed a petition to grant her a furlough to spend the holidays at home.

There is also a pending petition signed by dozens of members of the House of Representatives to grant a furlough to Arroyo, who is serving her second term as representatives of Pampanga’s second district.

Arroyo, who has been suffering from various ailments topped by a degenerative spine condition, is detained at a suite of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City on plunder charges over the alleged misuse of P300 million in Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office funds when she was president.

She has been denied bail on the charges.

The report by station dwIZ said the Sandiganbayan order allows Arroyo’s whole family to join her at the hospital from December 24 to 25 and again, from December 31 to January 1.
