Saying of Quaid.e.Azam Muhammad Ali jinnah: The press can do a great damage to a society through wrong projection but it can render great service by providing correct guidance to the people and its government”
Fourth generation war which has imposed on Pakistan through media. The war is being fought at three different levels physical, mental and moral. Physical combat is actually least important. Mental combat is ‘will of flight’ and the ‘belief in victory.’ The important is moral combat –‘whose side is God on.’
The media of mass communication news paper, radio, television and film have become tremendous power in present day world. They provide information guidance, ideas and entertainment the people and play a vital role in influencing and molding public opinion. We may call press as “fourth estate”. Now it is up to media that whether it plays positive role in educating the people and bring developments in the country or play a negative immature and evil role by leading the people in wrong direction.
A powerful and timely investigation into the media’s role in war, tracing the history of embedded and independent reporting from the carnage of world war one to the destruction of Hiroshima, and from the invasion of Vietnam to current war in Afghanistan and disaster in Iraq as weapons and propaganda become even more sophisticated, the nature of war is developing into an electronic battle field in which journalists play a key role and civilians are the victims.
In these times of war when journalism became subversion on behalf of hostile powers, then it is called high treason. Information war and ideological subversion are integral part of fourth generation war being waged against Pakistan. The terrorists on ground get support from subversive elements within the media and the all create crisis for the armed forces, ISI and the nation instead of supporting them against the insurgents and terrorists.
Now a days electronic media has employed advance technology to wage a bloodless war in the form of investigative reporting and live debates. In Pakistan television news is the most powerful medium because literacy rate is low so journalists play a key role in this scenario. There are some ethics of journalism which journalists must have to follow. It can be misused therefore in every democratic society the journalists agree to a code of ethics the voluntarily declare and sign that they will not misuse this profession.
Journalists should realize the value of their reporting that can make or break individuals, communities and nations. In this age of endless imperial war the lives of countless men, women and children depend on the truth or their blood is depend on journalists.
In Pakistan fourth generation war has been imposed through media in such a way that it is targeting the Islamic ideology , Pakistani identity , national unity, honor of Pakistan army and ISI and need for strategic asset. The external forces and our enemies which are involved in such action they are actually creating confusion among the nation by portraying the founding fathers of our country like Jinnah as promoter of secularism.
To pen of Journalism must be handover to honest and patriotic people who value the integrity and image of their country a lot and do not sell it at any cost.
