Turkey’s women’s basketball team won a stunning victory on Friday to secure an Olympic place after a win against their Argentinean rivals at the the 2012 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women.

The 72-58 win in Ankara Arena gave Turkish women’s basketball team the first-ever Olympic berth for the games in London.

Turkey had to encounter Argentine in the quarter-finals after completing the Group B matches as the leader.

The “Fairies of the Net,” as the Turkish women’s national basketball team is popularly called, kicked off their 2012 Olympic qualifying campaign on a winning note as they routed Puerto Rico 65-53 and trounced Japan 65-49 in the second encounter, both last week.
