Keeping pace with telecom major etisalat company, du announced a plan for prepaid customers to now avail low international call rates, with a call setup fee of 50 fils to select countries.

For 0.5 fils per second – 30fils per minute – customers can call family and friends on any network in nine countries.

“We’ve dropped our international call rates to the lowest they’ve ever been, so that our customers not only get even more value – they get even more time to speak with their loved ones overseas,” said Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Commercial Officer, du.

With the ‘Call Home For Less’ offer activated, customers can call any network in nine countries – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Nepal and Nigeria – and enjoy the new lowered rates. After a connection charge of 50 fils, the call will be charged at 0.5 fils per second. To opt for the offer, customers can dial *135*30#, which will activate the offer for free.

Earlier in the year, etisalat made international calls almost 70 per cent cheaper when it introduced its new Wasel add-on. The plan is still going strong. Under the ‘Wasel International Add-on’, prepaid customers could make international calls at local call prices – to select countries: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and China as well as to etisalat’s networks in Egypt and Sri Lanka.

Customers who subscribed to the etisalat plan were charged 0.5 fils per second, a fraction of the standard international billing rate. The cheaper rate still applies to all calls all day. The catch is that customers are charged a set-up fee of Dh1 per call. Customers can dial *141# or SMS “IDD” to 1010 to subscribe.
