Stress is defined as tension or strain resulting from demanding or adverse circumstances. It is a part of everyday life. Moderate amounts of stress can actually be good for you. In fact, moderate amounts of stress can motivate you to succeed and make you more resilient.

However, chronic stress can have a number of negative effects on your health. It can increase the risk of high blood pressure, depression and heart disease. Fortunately, there are several ways that you can manage your stress and improve your health.

Exercise

Regular exercise will reduce your cortisol level. Cortisol is a stress hormone. Regular exercise can also boost your mood and fight depression. Furthermore, it can help lower your blood pressure and blood sugar level. Ideally, you should get 2.5 hours of moderate exercise in per week. Walking, jogging and cycling are some of the ways that you can exercise.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy   

Your thoughts can influence your behavior. That is why cognitive behavioral therapy can beneficial for managing stress. The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy is to replace your negative thoughts with positive ones. If you eliminate negative thinking patterns, then you will have an easier time managing your stress.

Relax Your Muscles

Your muscles tense up when you are under intense stress. You can loosen up your muscles by stretching them. It is a good idea to stretch your muscles when you wake up in the morning. You will need to stretch before and after exercising. You can also take a warm bath. Not only will this loosen your muscles, but it can also benefit you if you have bad toenail fungus.

Additionally, you can get a massage. A massage will help lower cortisol levels. It can also reduce pain. Stress has a tendency to make pain worse.

Eat Well

Eating well will not only make it easier for you to manage stress, but it will also improve your overall health. Your diet should be filled with fruits, vegetables and whole grains. You will also need to eat lean protein such as beans and lean meat. Keep in mind that skipping meals can put in a bad mood. This will make it harder for you to manage stress.

Take a Break   

Many people work from the time that they get up until the time that they go to bed. It is important for you to schedule downtime each day. Spend at least one hour winding down per day. You can meditate, do yoga and listen to your favorite music.

Talk to Someone

Many of us are stressed because we choose to keep our feelings bottled up. You should talk to a family member or friend about the things that are bothering you. If you do not feel comfortable talking to someone close to you, then you can schedule an appointment with therapist.

Slow Down

Modern life is way too busy. It is important to slow down and enjoy the moment. There are several ways that you can slow down. Instead of rushing to get to your destination, you will need to leave the house 5 to 10 minutes earlier. You will be able to get to your destination without having to rush. You may want to drive in the slow lane. This can help you avoid road rage.

It is also a good idea for you to break one large project down into smaller ones. For example, you have 100 emails that you have to go through by the end of the day. You do not have to answer them all at one time. You can answer a few of them each hour.
