AFP – A Bangladesh war crimes court found a British-based Muslim leader and a US citizen guilty on Sunday in absentia for atrocities committed during the war of independence.

The International Crimes Tribunal found Britain’s Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khan, from the United States, guilty of murdering 18 intellectuals during the 1971 war.

“They encouraged, they gave moral support to and participated in the killing of 18 intellectuals,” judge Mujibur Rahman Mia told the packed court in Dhaka.
