KABUL: US forces closed a camp in Mangal village, Baghlan-e-Jadid district in northern province of Baghlan, as they announced on Tuesday the capability of the Afghan forces to crack down insurgents.
“The base closure was a result of Afghan National Security Forces ability to disrupt insurgent activity in the region with minimal support from Coalition Forces”, a statement from the international forces press offices said.
ANSF assumes full responsibility for security of the people of Baghlan-e Jadid and will operate independently of Coalition Forces, the statement added.
The Baghlan-e-Jadid District Chief of Police Gen. Rustaqi welcomed the departure of Coalition Forces, the statement quoted.
“Foreign Special Forces have left, but the ANA and ANSF are providing the all the security now,” said the general. “We were trained by the Ministry of Interior to protect the people and that is exactly what we have been doing for some time now”, according to the statement.
Rustaqi called upon the residents of Baghlan-e-Jadid district to support the efforts of the Afghan government.
“With the people’s support, security conditions will continue to improve,” he said. “I request that the people do not give shelter to anyone who destroys schools, kills innocent people or works against the government.
