Arsenal have been dealt a blow just days ahead of the January transfer window after reported target Sami Khedira revealed his desire to sign a new deal with Real Madrid.
Speculation was rife during the summer over Arsenal’s interest in the German international, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Chelsea were also thought to be weighing up a deal for Khedira, although a move from either Premier League side failed to materialise.
But with the January window approaching and rumours still going strong regarding the Gunners’ desire to sign the midfielder, Khedira has stated his wishes for his immediate future.
‘If we can reach a solution [over a new contract], I’ll be very happy,’ he told the German media.
Under the Bosman ruling, Khedira would be free to speak to foreign clubs and sign a pre-contract as of January 1 unless he pens a new deal at Real in the next four days.
