Abu Dhabi: A car cleaner who turned in Dh25,000 that a Saudi customer left behind in a rental car has been honoured by his company. Shahan Safdar, 20, from Pakistan found the wad of cash in an envelop in the rear seat of the car that was rented by a customer from Saudi Arabia.
“I saw the envelop while cleaning the back seat of the car. I immediately reported it to my supervisor,” Safdar told XPRESS. “The first thought that came to mind was how devastated I would be if I had lost my hard-earned money. I did not want anyone to go through that pain. So in God’s name, I returned it,” said the man who came to the UAE eight months ago.
Fast Rent a Car company said the Saudi customer had returned the car after using it from December 2 to 4. “As a part of our standard procedure, we sent the car for cleaning to the garage. One of our car washers found the cash in the rear seat,” said a company official. The customer who was at the airport was immediately contacted, and a company driver delivered the cash to him, added the official.
The firm honoured Safdar for his honesty with a letter of appreciation and a cash prize of Dh500. The Saudi customer, Nasser Ghoneim, on his part said he was impressed by the trustworthiness of the employee who returned his money.
