33 million use Dubai airports in 2012

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFAD) on Monday announced that around 33 million passengers used the emirate’s international airport in 2012.

 

The Dubai International Airport saw a significant jump of 17.8 per cent in terms of inbound and outbound passengers which amounted to 32,860,637 people last year, against 27,885,990 in 2011.

“That is 4,974,647 passengers more,” Major-General Mohammed Al Marri, Director-General of the directorate, said, noting that Dubai Airports are expected to see over 98 million passengers by 2020.

He added that 4,563,207 passengers used the 96 e-gates installed at the three terminals of the Dubai International Airport in 2012 “in comparison to 3,971,767 in 2011.”

Most recently, Terminal-3 saw 28 smart e-gates at Arrivals within four months; 14 in December 2012 and 14 in February 2013. “Applications for all immigration transactions are accepted through the AMER Service which is available round the clock at toll-free number 8005111. The immigration office at the Dubai International Airport, Terminal-3, since its inception on December 15, 2011, has seen a pressing demand from passengers of all nationalities. The Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs’ Airport Office managed to process thousands of transactions in the second half of 2012. “Our staff in the immigration office at the airport processed 10,522 transactions in the last six months of 2012,” said Maj-Gen Al Marri.
