NYC-Based Legal Firm Puts Stress on Korean Market

Cohen & Gresser, a New York-based global law firm, has officially started their legal service by opening its South Korean office on the 15th floor of Pine Avenue building in Seoul’s Eulgiro 2-ga area.

From Cohen & Gresser’s headquarter in New York City came Mr. Lawrence T Gresser, co-owner and CEO; Mr. Mark S. Cohen, co-owner, and Ms. Karen H. Bromberg, PR director.

Mr. Sohn Seung-Chul, US-educated South Korean lawyer, is in charge of Cohen & Gresser’s South Korean office. Mr. Sohn hosted the opening ceremony and the “wine tasting” reception in the evening of the day.

During his conversation with the local journalists Mr. Gresser expressed the significance of his opening of the South Korean office.

“We want to help large Korean companies to do their business in the America,” Mr. Gresser told The Seoul Times. “Such as LG Electronics, KCC Corporation, Hyundai Rotem, and SK Corporations”

Asked about the size of his law firm, Mr. Gresser said “We have some 80 legal experts including 50 lawyers in our New York office”

He said that he co-founded Cohen & Gresser some 10 years ago with his business partner, Mr. Mark S. Cohen.

The US lawyers considered South Korean legal market as their primary legal service area among other Asian cities and regions.

Korean market is very important,” Gresser stressed. “South Korea is the gateway to China”

He said that the South Korean office is Cohen & Gresser’s first overseas branch office.

“Korean companies are doing very successfully throughout the world especially in the United States,” he said. “They are very developing very rapidly”

Mr. Gresser said that he and Mr. Cohen visited South Korea so many times over the last years.

“I visited South Korea over 20 times over the last several years,” Mr. Gresser said.

Mr. Mark S. Cohen, the co-founder of Cohen & Gresser, also expressed optimism about their direct advance into the South Korean market.

“The more active South Korean companies are, the more legal services they need,” Mr. Cohen said.

In the opening ceremony held at its Seoul office on Oct. 22, 2012 Mr. Lawrence T Gresser, co-owner and CEO of the American law firm, announced the establishment of its South Korean branch office.

The opening ceremony was attended by well over 100 South Korean lawyers and media representatives from such media entities as AP, Financial Times, Financial News, Legal Times, and The Seoul Times.

Among the participants were Executive Consultant Christie Lee of Hana Tax Corporation, Honorary President Kim Dong-Gun of the local Barun law firm, and Attorney Mihyun Melissa of Shin & Kim law firm.
