KABUL: President Hamid Karzai on Saturday termed national unity among Afghans as an outstanding example for the outer world.
Tribal Solidarity Society, a social movement trying to strengthen national unity, presented a souvenir to President Hamid Karzai here for his tireless efforts to develop the country and improve lifestyle of the citizens.
President Karzai thanked the society for honoring his works and said Afghanistan was a small country but its geopolitical importance is crystal clear. National unity among Afghans is a glorious example for the outer world.
Hinting at the second round of presidential elections, the incumbent president said, “Our presidential election is a national process because the two frontrunners candidates have supporters from all parts of the country.”
He added that the country was going towards development as currently the country is being run by its people.
Members of the society while talking about achievements of the last decade said that Afghanistan has come a long way during the past 13 years. “You started from the scratch and led the country towards development and stability,” they said while talking to President Karzai.
They said that democracy had strengthened in Afghanistan under wise leadership of President Karzai. “By paving the ground for free and fair polls the president proved that national interests are of utmost importance for him than anything else,” they added.
Members of the society said that they presented the souvenir to President Karzai to honor his efforts that were guided to strengthen the national unity.
The society is comprised of 170 associations, social organizations and civil societies.
It is worth mentioning that President Karzai is the first outgoing president who will peacefully transfer power to his successor.
