Eight soldiers killed in clashes with PKK in Hakkari

The PKK terrorists crossed the northern Iraqi border into Turkey and attacked the Da?l?ca Internal Security Battalion Command military outpost near the border at about 5 a.m.

The troops immediately responded to the PKK attack with heavy fire. Reinforcements have been deployed to the area, where fierce fighting is still ongoing.

The PKK has intensified its violent acts in recent weeks and dozens of terrorists have been killed in armed skirmishes.

The Da?l?ca battalion, which oversees border security in the area to prevent terrorists from crossing into Turkey, has been attacked several times in the past.

In one of the more deadly attacks, 12 soldiers were killed and eight captured by the PKK during an attack on Oct. 21, 2007. The incident sparked public anger and outrage as the captured soldiers were held by the terrorist organization in northern Iraq for a few weeks.
