Afghan president Hamid Karzai congratulated the Afghan nation for being honored with the FIFA Fair Play award, and called it the start of major achievements for Afghanistan in 2014.
President Karzai said the FIFA Fair Play Award which was awarded to Afghanistan Football Federation, was a good news for the start of the year 2014.
Karzai said, Afghanistan started the year 2014 with a major achievement and a good news, despite inappropriate propaganda regarding the year 2014, which have created tensions among the Afghan people.
Karzai quoted in a statement by presidential palace said, Afghanistan will hopefully experience mores successes and achievements during the current year in various sectors.
The Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) won the FIFA Fair Play award during the FIFA Ballon D’OR ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland on Monday.
Afghanistan was honored with the award for the outstanding performance of the Afghanistan football during the year, despite chaos of war and difficult political situation the country is facing.
FIFA in a statement posted on its website said, “Following a year of remarkable achievement in grassroots level football, building infrastructure to further develop football throughout the country and nurturing a professional league despite enduring over a decade of disorder stemming from war, Afghanistan has been presented the 2013 FIFA Fair Play award.”
It was the first time Afghanistan was nominated for the award in FIFA Ballon D’Or award, during the 90 years history of the Afghanistan football.
