Martin Guptill hit an unbeaten century as New Zealand claimed a five-wicket win at Lord’s in the first of three one-day internationals against England.
The opener hit the winning runs with a four to finish 103 not out, while Ross Taylor also contributed 54 in a match-winning partnership of 119 for the third-wicket after the Black Caps had slumped to 1-2.
Earlier, England posted 227-9 from their 50 overs, with Jonathan Trott top-scoring on 37 and Tim Southee taking 3-17 to restrict the hosts.
The win was the perfect response after New Zealand lost the Test series 2-0 and the teams will next lock horns in Sunday’s second ODI in Southampton.
