Airline says passengers were safe despite UK media report suggesting A380 aircraft door was ajar.

Dubai: Emirates airline says safety was not a concern on its A380 flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong last Monday contrary to claims by passengers in a UK news report of a door malfunction.

An Emirates spokesperson confirmed on Saturday that there was a loud noise coming from one of the doors but didn’t elaborate on what went wrong.

“Emirates can confirm that there was a whistling noise emanating from one of the doors on the A380 upper deck on Flight EK384 between Bangkok and Hong Kong on Monday 11th February,” the spokesperson said.

However, he denied that at any point in the flight the safety of the passengers was in jeopardy.

“The safety of our passengers and crew remains our number one priority and we work very closely with the manufacturer to ensure this,” he added.

A Daily Mail report yesterday quoting a passenger from the flight claimed that the incident happened midflight at an altitude of 27,000 feet when one of the doors in the business class cabin somehow was ajar letting in thin and freezing air.

“We were about two hours in when suddenly there was a huge blast. It was a real shock, so loud that I thought a bomb might have gone off. Air was gushing into the cabin like a gale,” the Daily Mail quoted a passenger, David Reid, as saying.

The Daily Mail report also suggested that the hole was plugged with blankets and pillows and the flight was continued despite low air pressure on board.

Emirates didn’t confirm the details of the incident.
