Every person alive will not forget the year 2020, if they hold good memory. We are not going to forget this year because of all the apparent reasons. This year is definitely going down in the history books mainly because of the unpleasant events.

2020 can be called the year of the pandemic, the year of global lockdown, the work from home and the year of online classes, the year when the air became cleaner, etc. There have been uncertain times with many bitter moments but every cloud has silver lining, this year also gave some blissful moments. Weather this year gave good or bad memories but it gave some lessons to learn. Let us be optimistic and instead of focusing on the gloomy, dark days under the shadow of the coronavirus, look at what it has taught us about life, ourselves and the world around us.

  • Survival of the fittest

Past year was all about health care. Health became the center of everyone’s focus and it should remain the focus as Covid-19 virus is still there in 2021 as it was in 2020. The pandemic has taught us the health needs not to be taken for granted as good health and our strong immunity will protect us against illnesses and help us beat the COVID-19 virus. In 2021, good hygiene, eating healthy and physical and mental workout exercising and good hygiene practices should continue to be our focus. And along with good physical health, our mental health should be our focus.

  • Empathy and compassion

2020 turned our lives upside down. It forced us to look at how we spend our time and money, where we work, and how we educate our children. Many of life’s pleasures have changed. For example: meeting our friends, going to a favorite restaurant, or taking public transport. This time allowed us to care about the people around us be it our aged parents or poor people in our community. Throughout the world, people made donations more than usual. People started making donations for the needy which is the trend that should be kept alive in the coming years.

  • Nature has healing power

During the lockdown, people had more spare time that allowed them to focus on their hobbies. Many of them established a connection with the nature that gave them peace of mind. Earth was beautiful in this time as we were locked in our homes and greenhouse gases were down by 17%. Unexpectedly we saw fish in the canals of Venice. Throughout the world skyline appeared and residents breathed fresher air. From the world slowing down, we saw the possibilities of a cleaner environment.

  • Self-evaluation

Every relationship in our life needs continuous time spent together to keep it in a good place, including the one we have with our self. It is difficult to make yourself a priority but it is not impossible. 2020 gave us a lot for self-reflection, to look into our strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislike etc.

  • Only change is constant

This past year made us realize that nothing is constant. The world coming to a standstill and our lives changing beyond our control taught us that only change is constant. Being able to accept change is how we survived 2020. We all had to give up our normal lives, hobbies, jobs, studies, activities, plans and so much more to sail through the challenges in 2020. Accepting change and finding a place for ourselves in that changed scenario is what we should keep focusing on.
