The unemployment crisis among the youth of Pakistan is one of the gravest challenge, we are facing today. Pakistan has been facing this since long and which, unfortunately, still continues to haunt us. In the current situation, more than three million people are unemployed in Pakistan and unemployment ratio is more than 12:1. One out of every 10 people of the country’s population has been added to the pool of the unemployed, as the unemployment rate further increased to 6.5%, showing signs of a crisis-plagued and slowing economy.
In today’s fast paced world, Jobs have become a necessity yet, they are hardly available. The youth in our country is full of talent and potential but they do not have opportunities. In Pakistan, even a person who has ability and willingness to work is unable to get a proper job opportunity. Some do not have enough resources to get quality education from a well reputed institution, which is the demand of all employers. It’s sad to see all the talented youth sitting like this wasting away their talent and potential especially at a point in their lives in which they can give their utmost and perform their best. For their own selves, their families and for their country.
After completing their education, people are pressurized by their families to look for a way of earning to support their families but the demand of every employer in every field is sky high and majority of the people they fail to get jobs which is very sad as there is so much talent and potential in our country especially in the youth.
In some cases, lack of skills can be the reason of unemployment. It is often observed that mismatch exist between the jobs offered by the employers and the skills of the workers. The curriculum and teaching methods at educational institutes are inefficient and do not have the capacity of skill development among youngsters which is very unfortunate. Furthermore, there is deficiency of technical training institutes for the professional training. Most of the jobs at private and public sector require highly experienced applicants.
Continuous increase in the population can also be taken as a potential reason for the high youth unemployment. Low wages in the labor market is also one of the causes of the youth unemployment. Many young people reject jobs that are offered to them at low wages. Youth unemployment in few recent years has been increased because of the low foreign and domestic investment. Due to the security risks people are hesitant in investing businesses that also have caused an increase in the unemployment.
It is not practically possible for every citizen to get a government job or to sit on a high paying position in a private company, we already have a lot of issues, economically. So why not use your skills and interests to start your own business. Why can’t our country not have young entrepreneurs? Our educational institutions should guide the students to go towards entrepreneurship. Their knowledge combined with indigenous knowledge can help our country economically.
