Through a recent takeover, B-lite has become the proprietor of a total of 76 transmission masts across Brussels. The company now plans to use them to provide a 4G internet service.
It will be able to do so as, unlike other operators such as Proximus and Mobistar, it won’t be proving services using old 2G and 3G technology.
B-lite’s CEO Max Heilbron told the Brussels regional news site brusselnieuws.be that “If the existing operators were to offer a 4G service on top of their existing 2G and 3G services they would exceed the 3 volt per metre limit. We will be starting off with 4G only which means that we will start from scratch.”
Tests carried out by B-lite in May were positive. The new 4G network should be available by the end of the year. A B-lite modem will be required as well as a smartphone or tablet that 4G compatible.
