At least 69 Taliban insurgents were killed and 14 others injured during a series of coordinated operations conducted by the Afghan forces over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoIA) released in a statement on Wednesday.
Eight other insurgents were arrested during the raids.
The statement read: “The Afghan National Police (ANP), Afghan National Army (ANA) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS), or intelligence service, conducted several anti-terrorism joint operations in Kunar, Nangarhar, Kapisa, Balkh, Herat and Ghour provinces.”
The operation was launched to clear the areas of insurgents, it stated.
The MoIA did not provide details about Afghan force casualties during the raids. And self-identified Taliban spokesman have not yet commented on the operations.
The statement also added that “during these operations, ANP discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds of ammunition and IEDs” during the raids.
There are over 350,000 Afghan security forces and the forces will take over full security responsibility from foreign troops by the end of 2014.
