Residents and businesses in the UAE will now have another broadband service provider to choose from. YahClick, a subsidiary of Mubadala‘s YahSat, launched a satellite broadband offering in the UAE today offering an alternative to Etisalat and du.

The service will be made available through providers SkyStream and Safa Telecom.

“YahClick was designed with a specific mission in mind, to provide high speed, reliable internet connectivity to individuals, companies and communities, no matter how challenging or demanding the market,” said MasooSharif Mahmood, deputy chief executive officer of Yahsat.

The satellite has coverage in 28 countries across the Middle East, Africa and Central and South-West Asia, covering one billion people. Already YahClick is live in 11 countries including Afghanisatan, Iraq and South Africa, with the rest set to go online by the end of 2014.

“The main objective is to address the gap we have seen in many countries [where] terrestrial infrastructure is not available everywhere,” Shawkat Ahmed, chief commercial officer at Yahsat. “Our focus is mainly on business users, but we also offer services to home users who may not have access to reliable, cost effective broadband.”

Business users can purchase monthly packages starting from Dhs600 to Dhs2500.
