Ailing Thai Airways International (THAI) can save about 10 million baht from axing free plane tickets for board members, a Transport Ministry source said on Wednesday.
The source said the average cost of a ticket for domestic flights given board members for free is 7,000 baht and the average cost of a ticket for international flights is 60,000 baht.
THAI has 15 board members chaired by air force commander ACM Prajin Juntong. The National Council for Peace and Order on Tuesday ended the free flying benefits for them.
They are given 10 free tickets for domestic trips and another 10 for international routes on business class operated by the airline. The free tickets can be used by family members.
The decision needs approval of the airline’s board.
Ampon Kitti-ampon, the cabinet secretary-general who approved the council’s decision, said on Wednesday the Transport Ministry would be informed of the order and it was expected the board would rubber stamp approval in a meeting on June 20.
Each board member also receives an allowance of 50,000 baht for a meeting and each sub-committee member gets 10,000 baht as a meeting allowance, the source said… see more
