Chronic pain invades the day
Wishing you could turn away
But the constant pressure
Takes a good measure
Of the joy that life could have

You cut your hands performing tasks
And put on one of your convincing masks
That is doesn’t hurt too much
You’ll make it with a crutch
While you go in search of salve

Another day passes, you try to ride
All your aches have been denied
Meanwhile, your brain is being fried
A permanent thorn in the proverbial side
And you must lick your wounds

You thank God for another day
And tread so carefully by what you say
You know you’re grateful for one more chance
To smile and laugh while you spin and dance
While your mind is engulfed in tunes.
