Dubai: Smartphones and tablets are likely to be top sellers at Gitex Shopper Spring 2015, which opened on Wednesday.
Sami Al Qamzi, director general of the Dubai Department of Economic Development, inaugurated the show, which is featuring more than 30,000 products from over 100 consumer IT and electronics brands.
The four-day event is showcasing the latest gadgets and IT solutions and is expected to boost the retailers’ annual sales. It generated sales of more than Dh101 million last year compared to Dh93 million in 2013.
Sean Connor, general manager of Plug Ins, said smartphones are likely to be the driver for the event, but ‘we will see panels and IT deliver strong results on the back of great savings and new lineups’.
‘We are expecting iPhone 6, Samsung S5, note 4, A5, HTC One M9, new IT products featuring convertible/hybrid laptops, touchscreen desktops and ultra-high definition panels to be the primary crowd pullers,’ he added.
‘We’re expecting a wave of excited shoppers on the lookout for new launches such as the Samsung S6 and S6 Edge, which are available for pre-orders at Gitex Shopper Spring 2015. The S6 Edge’s innovative display is bound to stir some interest.
