Riot police brought in as labourers hold strike near Dubai Mall

A group of labourers demanding bonuses held a strike near Dubai Mall on Tuesday morning.
Riot police were brought in to control the hundreds of striking workers who had gathered in the Festival Road and Boulevard area of Downtown Dubai, halting traffic.

Dubai Media Office confirmed the strike in a tweet saying Dubai Police “resolved the issue of Fountain Views workers gathered in Boulevard demanding bonuses.”

The said the incident was cleared within an hour.
A video posted on YouTube showed a huge crowd of neon-clad construction workers gathering in the middle of the road and blocking traffic.

Commuters reported the strike caused massive traffic delays in the Downtown Dubai area, which is home to the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.
