There have been some crazy pizza products over the years, but this one may take the cake.
A Canadian restaurant chain called Boston Pizza is running a contest to determine the next “Pizza Game Changer,” and one of the options is a six-layer cake made entirely of — you guessed it — pizza.
Pizza cake is “great for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, weddings and even lonely nights watching infomercials,” according to Boston Pizza.
Other cheesy contenders include pizza-flavored mints, a gas-powered pizza cutter and a pizza air freshener.
Pizza enthusiasts are asked to vote for their favorite ‘innovation,’ which the chain claims will be made into a real product. Pizza cake was leading by a wide margin and the promotion does boast that “if you like if, we’ll make it.”
However, as Eater points out, the campaign includes two culinary creations that are already on Boston Pizza’s menu: “Pizzaburger” sliders and the pizza taco made with chipotle chicken and bacon.
Pizza cake’s overwhelming popularity caused the contest’s site to crash on Friday afternoon.
“Whoa, people REALLY want a slice of Pizza Cake! PizzaGameChangers.com is experiencing higher traffic volume than expected, please try again later,” the page said.
