The rock group recently unveiled a trailer for their sixth studio album, The 2nd Law, and they have now revealed that their first single since 2010’s Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) will be a track entitled Survival.

While the group are more known for having an apocalyptic edge to their music, this track is about ‘total conviction and pure determination to win’.

A statement on Muse’s official website read: ‘We are very excited to announce that a Muse song, Survival, has been selected by the London Olympic committee to be the main official song for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

‘Matt wrote the song with the Olympics in mind. It’s about total conviction and pure determination to win.’ The statement also reveals that the track will be played throughout the Games including when athletes enter the stadium and during the lead up to the medal ceremony, as well as being the theme for all international TV coverage.

The group added: ‘We are honoured that the Olympics have chosen our song to officially represent the London 2012 Olympic Games across the globe.’

Fans will be able to listen to Survival for the first time on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show at 7.30 tonight, with the track being made available to purchase immediately afterwards on iTunes and Muse’s official website.

The 2nd Law will be released worldwide on 17 September 2012, with the band set to tour the UK and Europe in October.
