One of two men who used false passports to board the missing Malaysia Airlines flight was an Iranian asylum seeker and not believed to belong to a terrorist group, say police.
It came as search and rescue teams expanded their search for the aircraft to include a vast area on the west peninsula of Malaysia at the Straits of Malacca.
The news that two passengers on board flight MH370 were travelling on stolen passports – one Austrian, one Italian – had fuelled speculation of a security breach and possible terrorist attack.
But Malaysian police have said that one of the two men was an 19-year-old Iranian asylum seeker trying to reach Germany.
