Manchester United are scouting Montpellier play-maker Remy Cabella ahead of a move in the January transfer window.
Cabella, 23, is Montpellier’s star performance and is widely recognised as one of the most exciting players in France.
Arsenal and Inter Milan have previously linked with the move, but United have now emerged as the front runners for his signature.
David Moyes has already confirmed he wants to sign at least two new players when the transfer window re-opens – and a creative midfielder is a top target.
Cabella fits the bill – and Moyes has now instructed United scouts to draw up an in depth reports on the player with a £15million bid in the pipeline.
Montpellier are aware of the growing interest in Cabella, but their president Louis Nicollin warned in the summer that it would take a bid of ‘at least £100million’ to convince them to sell.
A fast, agile and creative midfielder who can play on the wing or behind a striker, Cabella has previously drawn links to Zinedine Zidane.
