According to the latest numbers by IDC and Gartner, Lenovo is currently the biggest PC supplier in the world.

This is not the first time Lenovo has surpassed Hewlett-Packard. According to Gartner’s report from October 2012, Lenovo has been the no. 1 PC maker in the third quarter of 2012. Back then, IDC’s numbers weren’t backing up that claim, but now both analyst firms have Lenovo at the top.

According to IDC, Lenovo reached 16.7% global PC market share in 2Q 2013, up from 15.0% in the same period last year. Gartner also has Lenovo at 16.7% share this quarter, up from 14.9% from 2Q 2012.

HP is in second place with a 16.3% market share (according to Gartner; 16.4% according to IDC), followed by Dell, Acer and Asus.

“The PC market is changing, but it still represents a $200b opportunity. Lenovo can capture more of this opportunity than our competitors because we have built great balance over the last 4 years. (…) PC leadership is just one milestone in a longer journey to become a true leader in the “PC Plus” market, which includes tablets, smart phones, smart TVs and other “smart connected” devices,” said Lenovo’s chairman & CEO Yang Yuanqing in a statement.

It’s no wonder Lenovo wants to capture more of the “connected device” market — being the king of the PC world is nice, but it’s a market that’s constantly dwindling. According to Gartner’s report, worldwide PC shipments in 2Q 2013 declined 10.9% compared to the same period last year. If you look at IDC’s numbers, worldwide PC shipments fell even more: 11.4% compared to 2Q 2012.
