King visits army unit on northern border: Jordan

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces, on Wednesday visited a border guard army unit at the northern borders.

The King was welcomed by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Mashal Al Zaben and the commander of border guard troops and was briefed on the tasks and the mission of border guard troops, a Royal Court statement said.

King Abdullah joined the unit troops for iftar, expressing satisfaction over the border guards’, distinguished skills and their efficiency in implementing their tasks and mission.

His Majesty also performed maghreb prayers with the troops.

On Saturday, the government said the Jordanian army is working day and night to protect the Kingdom’s borders and security.

“The Jordan Armed Forces [JAF] and other security agencies are exerting great concerted efforts to protect the security of the Kingdom,” Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and Government Spokesperson Samih Maaytah said.

He commended JAF’s “civilised treatment” of Syrian refugees who cross the borders to escape the violence in their country.
