If you have been wondering about life having become a tad bit slow, you have two of Dubai’s biggest events on its calendars to look forward to. Global Village, Dubai’s leading family entertainment and cultural attraction, will open its doors today for this year and if amusement parks and theme parks are not your thing, the 23rd edition of Gitex shopper is here too.

Global Village has announced a wealth of exciting new events and attractions for its 18th season that will last 148 days starting today. This year is set to start with a bang as the opening date is just a few days before Eid Al Adha and is anticipating tens of thousands of visitors from the UAE and across the region.

Residents across Dubai and Sharjah said that they are really looking forward to the upcoming events. Pakistani national Raisa Sayed, 32, and mother of two said: “Maybe not the Gitex as much, but yes Global Village is a fun family destination. Of course, I am looking forward to it. My kids have always loved the place. Since I stay in Silicon Oasis, which is a few minutes’ drive from Global Village, we spend several weekends in there. This year too, I will be making several trips, with my family and friends.”

Catering to make every tech geeks dream come true, Dh50 million worth of prizes are up for grabs at Gitex 2013, which will also showcase a staggering 30,000 products over the eight-day tech extravaganza from October 5 to 12. IT engineer Sumesh S, 30, a resident of Sharjah, said: “I did attend the Gitex last season and I wasn’t that impressed. However, the lineup this year looks good and I am looking forward to do some shopping,” said Sumesh.

Global Village

Special extended opening hours are planned with Global Village being open until 2am from October 10th to 19th and an hour later to 3am on the 14th and 15th. The Global Village management team has announced details of the exciting new events for the coming season including the unique Fantasy Island funfair concept being brought to the Middle East by specialist UK operator the Mellors Group.

Festivities this year include circus performers from China, street performers from the UK and regular fun-packed and colourful parades, coupled with fireworks, fountains with a “son et lumiere” show featuring fire effects and much more. Global Village executive director for operations Ahmad Hussain bin Essa said: “The team has finalised its preparations and is all geared up to welcome our first visitors on (today) Saturday October 5 to ensure they enjoy a family focused experience at the most popular and widely visited outdoor attraction in the Middle East.  With the Eid Al Adha celebrations commencing just a few days after we open, we are offering special extended opening hours as part of the wider Dubai Government celebrations to ensure that visitors from across the region can maximise their enjoyment of our attractions.”

Gitex

Gitex Shopper is the most anticipated and the biggest annual consumer electronics retail platform with world class brands and has a reputation of bringing in the best offers and bundle deals across the IT and consumer retail sector. Shoppers wait year round to get their technology fix at the annual event. Participating retailers reported sales in excess of Dh237 million last year and sales are expected to go much higher this year.

Kenyan national and resident of Dubai Samuel A Abuogo said: “I need a new phone and I am someone who has never been to a single edition of Gitex. This time, I plan on checking it out, mostly because I want to be a part of the Gitex experience and I also want to make some tech purchases.”
